Chapter 4 Question

Part 1.
All the prisoners who witnessed the child strangled on the noose, because they weren't used to seeing that horrible scene. The child was too young and innocent for something so horrible to happen to him that way. When Ellie witnessed this, he finally came to believe that there was no God. No God existed, because if God existed why would he let an innocent child be hanged on the gallows. Ellie asked, "Where is he?" , then someone answers, "He is here hanging on the gallows." I think this quote meant that God was there with them, because the kid was still alive struggling between life and death. This incident is going to confuse Ellie's faith in God, because at the moment he doesn't believe tat God exist.

# 1.Describe their person in charge of the tent. The person in charge of their tent was strong, well built, broad shouldered man. He had frizzled hair, and he looked like a kind man.
# 2.Which camp was known to be the best? Buna was known to be the best camp.
# 3.Why do you think they need to stay in quarantine? i think the prisoners had to stay in quarantine for medical and inspection purposes.
# 4.What does he need to give up to get into a better unit? Does he, why or why not. In order for Ellie to get into a good unit, he had to give up his shoes. At first he refused to give his shoes, but gave it later on for exchange for nothing.
# 5.What was the dentist doing? Why? The dentist was looking for gold teeth so he can remove them.
# 6.Who is Juliek? Juliek was a bespectacled Pole with a cynical smile on his pale face.
# 7.Describe what Elie group’s job was? Eli group's job was to count bolts, bulbs, and small electrical fittings.
# 8.Who were Tossi ad Tibi? Tossi and Tibi were two brothers. They were Czechs whos parents had been exterminated at Birkenau.
# 9.Who was Alphonse, describe. Alphones was a Jew who was a young man with an aged face. He was devoted to the cause of "his" block. He would also organize cauldron of soup for the young ones, the weak, all those who were hungry ,when he had time
# 10.Without any toothache why was Ellie taken to the dentist? Ellie was taken to the dentist, because he had a gold crown on his tooth.
# 11.Did the dentist get what he wanted? Why or why not? The dentist didnt get what he wanted, because Ellie kept making up excuses that he wasnt feeling well. Then after a few days the dentist was thrown in prison for running his own private dentist for golds teeth.
# 12.What happened with Idek and Elie? What kind of person is Idek? Ellie and Idek got into a violent fight. Ellie wasnt in the right place in the right time. Idek was having a bad day so he took his anger out on Ellie since he got in his way.
# 13.Who was the girl? What does she do for him? The girl was French. She had slipped some bit of bread in his hand.
# 14.Why do you think Elie had no pity for his dad when he was getting beat? Elli had no pity for his father getting beaten, because he was angry for his father not knowing how to avoid Idek's outbreak.
# 15.How does he lose his gold crown? The dentist from Warsaw pulled out his crowned tooth with a rusty spoon.
# 16.What was Elie’s consequence for walking in on Idek and a girl? Idek threatened Ellie for walking in on him and the girl. Ellie's punishment was getting whipped.
# 17.Why didn’t people escape during the raids? People didn't escape during the raids, because the SS had orders to kill anyone found outside the blocks.
# 18.Were they afraid during the bombing? Why? No they weren't afraid during the bombings, because they weren't afraid of death.
# 19.Where is god is questioned during the hanging. How does Elie respond to that? God was questioned when an innocent child was hanged. Ellie lost his faith in God.
# 20.Do you think his religion faith is dying too? Yes I think Ellie's religion faith is dying as well since he doesn't believe God exist.
# 21.What do the death of innocents represent to him? The death
