Chapter 14 Questions

  1. How has Ishmael changed? Ishmael changed, because he was changed to kill and he got addicted to drugs.
  2. What has he become addicted too? Why? Ishmael has became addicted to the white capsules, because they gave him a lot of energy.
  3. Describe how he felt when he tried all the drugs together? The first time Ishmael took all the drugs all together, he began to perspire resulting him to take his clothes off.
  4. What is the difference between him and the rebels now? Are there any? Ishmael and his group had to wear a green cloth around their head that distinguishes them from the rebels and yes there were still rebels.
  5. Describe the activities they do. When they ran out of food, drugs, ammunition. and gasoline to watch their movies, they raided rebels camps in towns, villages, and forests. They also attacked civilian village to capture recruits and whatever else they could find.
  6. What does he think about killing now? Ishmael thinks about killing rebels now.
  7. How were they able to watch movies? They were able to watch movies with the aid of a generator or sometimes a car battery.
  8. How was he similar to Rambo? Ishmael was somewhat similar to Rambo, because he attacks villages.
  9. How has Alhaji and Ishmael changed? Alhaji and Ishmael changed, because they were brainwashed to kill, and they weren't really like that before.
  10. Tell me a time where you completely changed to a different person, and why it could be good or bad. The time when I was changed was when I hung out with the wrong crowd. It was a bad thing, because I started doing things that I wouldnt normally do.
  11. What were some things they got from the villages they raided? The things they got from the villages they raided were gallons of gasoline, enormous amounts of marijuana and cocaine, bales of clothes, crapes, watches, rice, dried fish, salt, gari. and many other things.
  12. What do they do to capture rebels? They would deviate from the path and walk into the forest in order for them to capture rebels. Once the camp is in sight, they would wait for the lieutenant's command, and shoot as many people as they can. Then they would enter the rebel camp, killing those who were wounded.
  13. Are they careful with civilians? Yes, they took civilians as prisoners, so they can protect them from the rebels.
  14. What was making Ishmael feel special? Ishmael felt special, because he was part of something that took him seriously, and he wasn't running from anyone anymore.
  15. Do you think he is brainwashed? How does the lieutenant control them? I think Ishmael is brainwashed, because he would always listen to the lieutenant's command and kill as many people. The lieutenant controls them by telling them what to do.
  16. Describe the way they practice killing prisoners. The corporal would pick a few boys for the killing exhibition. The five prisoners were lined up in front of them on the training ground with their hands tied. They were suppose to slice their throats on the corporals command, and the person whose prisoner died the quickest would win the contest.
  17. How did they celebrate each night? They would celebrate with more drugs and more movies.
  18. Who won the contest? What was the reward? Ishmael had won the contest and he was given the rank of junior lieutenant.
  19. Does he sleep anymore? Ishmael doesn't really sleep anymore, he was mostly awake the whole time.
  20. What do you think of Ishmael now? I think of Ishmael as a whole different person now. Hes a very dangerous person who has no pity for anyone.
